Application process For 2009

An advert will appear in the Weekend Australian on Saturday, 24 May 2008 calling for applicants for the intern positions available in South Australian hospitals for 2009.

The PMCSA will send out an application form / informatioon pack to all SA final year medical students.

On-line application and hard copy application will be available to all applicants at this website from 24 May 2008, the closing date for application is 20 June 2008.

If you lodge an on-line application an acknowledgement will appear after submission.
If you post or fax a hard copy application an email acknowledgement will be forwarded.

 


Offers


First Round Offers - 21 July 2008


First round offers apply to:


  • South Australian graduates who are permanent residents of Australia/New Zealand; and Graduates of other medical faculties in Australia/New Zealand who are permanent residents of Australia/New Zealand who completed year 12 at a South Australian secondary school.

If South Australia has more positions available than South Australian graduate applicants (who are permanent residents of Australia/New Zealand) and graduates of other medical faculties in Australia/New Zealand who completed year 12 at a South Australian secondary school applicants (who are permanent residents of Australia/New Zealand), offers will be made to:


  • Graduates of other medical faculties in Australia/New Zealand (who are permanents residents of Australia/New Zealand).

These offers will be posted on 21 July 2008 with the offers to be accepted or declined by 1 August 2008 as per the Commonwealth nationally consistent allocation period.


Please note: One offer only is made to each applicant.

 


Subsequent Offers - 4 August 2008


Subsequent offers will be made on a fortnightly basis from 4 August 2008 as positions become available.


Offers apply in the following order to:


  1. Graduates of other medical faculties in Australia/New Zealand who are permanent residents of Australia/New Zealand.

  2. South Australian graduates who are not permanent residents of Australia/New Zealand for their internship.

  3. Graduates of other medical faculties in Australia/New Zealand who are not permanent residents of Australia/New Zealand but who are permitted to remain in Australia/New Zealand for their internship.

  4. Where positions are vacant at the end of the above allocation process, offers will be made to overseas trained doctors from the AMC/JMO database.

Please note:


Please provide the relevant documentation with your application:


  1. All applicants must provide a copy of their Curriculum Vitae (no more than 4 pages) which includes a paragraph outlining their Career Objectives/Goals (the purpose of providing a CV is for the interest of the employing hospital only).

  2. Permanent Residents of Australia/New Zealand and international students not studying at a South Australian University are required to attach a copy of their academic transcript for the 18 months prior to this application.

  3. If you are an international student you must provide a copy of your visa.

  4. If you are an international student you must commence the process to have work rights (20 hours) added to your student visa. The PMCSA may request proof that this process is underway.

  5. If you are applying for a 'Couple Application' please ensure both 'Couple Applications' are sent in together along with a jointly signed letter stating that you are seeking a joint placement.

  6. If you are applying for 'Special Consideration' please provide a letter of support from the Dean of the Medical School at your University.
